Valve stem fracture is a common sudden failure in industrial pipeline operation, causing valve failure, pipeline shutdown and maintenance difficulty. Many users attribute stem breakage to quality problems, while most failures come from unreasonable operation and structural stress concentration. The main causes of valve stem breakage include fatigue stress accumulation, improper opening and closing torque, foreign matter jamming, water hammer impact and stem thread stress concentration. Frequent pressure fluctuation leads to micro fatigue cracks on the stem surface, which expand gradually and finally break off. Excessive manpower or actuator over-torque operation will instantly twist the stem. When foreign particles jam the ball or disc, forced opening and closing directly causes stem shear fracture. In addition, unreasonable heat treatment and small stem diameter design also reduce safety margin. To prevent stem breakage, operators should avoid forced switching under jamming conditions, calibrate actuator torque regularly, eliminate pipeline water hammer, and choose valves with thickened stem and integral forging structure for high-pressure conditions.
