Technical Overview

Globe valves throttle and isolate. The disc lifts off and presses onto a seat ring โ€” that seating mechanism allows the disc to sit at any intermediate position between full-open and full-closed, giving flow regulation authority that gate and ball valves cannot provide at partial opening. The tradeoff: higher pressure drop. Globe valves force flow through two 90ยฐ direction changes in the standard T-pattern (Z-body) design, creating 3-5x more pressure drop at full-open than gate or ball valves of the same size. That pressure drop is acceptable because globe valves are specified for throttling service where flow reduction is the purpose, not for full-flow isolation where minimizing pressure drop is the priority. FLOWKS manufactures three globe valve configurations. Standard globe valves with bolted bonnet, solid disc, and T-pattern body cover general throttling and isolation at Class 150-600 from 2"-12" โ€” water, steam, oil, chemical bypass and recirculation lines where flow regulation is needed. High-pressure self-sealing Y globe valves combine forged body integrity, pressure-seal bonnet sealing, and Y-pattern body flow geometry for Class 600-2500 service โ€” the Y-pattern reduces pressure drop by 30-50% through a single 45ยฐ flow turn instead of two 90ยฐ turns, and the pressure-seal bonnet eliminates massive bonnet bolts at high operating pressure. High-pressure self-sealing flanged globe valves use the same forged body and pressure-seal bonnet in a standard T-pattern body โ€” higher pressure drop but more throttling authority, familiar maintenance geometry, and compact pipe rack installation for power station steam bypass and petrochemical high-pressure throttling.

High-pressure self-sealing Y globe valves deliver Class 600-2500 throttling with forged body zero-porosity integrity, pressure-seal bonnet that uses line pressure as the sealing force, and Y-pattern body that reduces full-open pressure drop by 30-50% compared to T-pattern โ€” specified for power station main steam bypass, reheater drain, and feedwater recirculation where high-pressure throttling authority meets energy-efficiency pressure drop requirements. High-pressure self-sealing flanged globe valves use the same forged body and pressure-seal bonnet in the standard T-pattern body โ€” more throttling authority from higher pressure drop, compact straight-line pipe rack installation, and familiar maintenance geometry for plant teams accustomed to T-pattern globe valve service. Stellite overlay on seat ring and disc face survives high-velocity erosion and disc-seat impact at Class 600+ operating pressures.
